Elizabeth & Liam at Ashley Park House Wedding
It’s been a while.
In fact, this is the first wedding I’ve blogged since last year. I’m not entirely sure how that happened, but I can’t think of a better day to break the barren streak than Elizabeth and Liam’s wedding at Ashley Park House.
When Elizabeth and Liam first got in touch back in 2024, they told me a little about how they’d ended up here. Liam is from Kilkenny, Elizabeth is from Clare, and they met while working in an Irish bar in Boston. Six years later they were still living in Boston, but Ireland was always home, so this was the only place they were ever going get married.
What they wanted from the day was pretty simple too. No stuffy traditions or over-the-top spectacle. Just everyone they loved in one place, relaxed, having fun and, in Elizabeth’s words, “pure joy”.
Oh, and good weather.
Well….They definitely got that!
Ireland, like the rest of Europe was going through that crazy heat wave and Ashley Park House was absolutely baking. Somehow everyone still managed to look impossibly cool. I’m just glad the camera was pointing in my direction :)
A little while before the wedding, Elizabeth had also messaged me after seeing some photographs I’d shared on Instagram that had a slightly different feel to them. I’d been quietly experimenting with an old camera and she asked if I’d shoot a little of the wedding that way too.
“Go for it. No pressure.”
So I did.
I brought it along and dipped in and out of it throughout the day. I’m really glad Elizabeth trusted me enough to try something different, but looking back through the photographs, what I love most about this wedding has very little to do with cameras.
It’s the people. The hugs, the laughter, everyone trying to find a bit of shade, friends and family who'd travelled to be there, and Elizabeth and Liam right in the middle of it all, having the best day they possibly could.
Pretty much exactly what they’d hoped for two years earlier.
