Thinking on your feet

Today (yesterday really but it’s just gone 1am) I shot a beautiful wedding in Ardmore, Co. Waterford. It was the wedding of Vicki and Andrew. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding to shoot and the first wedding I’ve shot that had two ceremonies in the one day. The first was a civil ceremony in The Cliff House hotel and the second ceremony was in St Pauls Church just around the corner.

A 2:15pm start time for the first ceremony and the fact that it’s Januray – we knew that available light could be a concern. To make matters worse the registrar for the first ceremony arrived over an hour late by mistake so we begun to hatch a plan as far as the photos were concerned. So straight after the civil ceremony and before the church, myself, the videographer and bride and groom made a mad dash to catch some available light before the sun finally set for the day to catch some shots close to the brides house.

We pulled up in a big field near an old lookout tower on the Ardmore coast. I jumped out and done a quick scout of the area. In the distance I could see Vicki don a pair of wellies. She’d need them.

The sun was low on the horizon and I knew that a great completely natural shot could be had if I could get into position quickly. I ran to where I knew Vicki and Andrew would be walking, postioned myself so that when they walked past they’d block the sun and set the camera to really over expose.

I could not be happier with how this turned out.

Big thanks to Vicki and Andrew. Both total stars today. Nothing fazed them in the slightest. Aslo big thank you to Vicki’s family who made me so welome and made sure that I was looked after. Such a generous bunch. This is one wedding I can’t wait to blog!
