Teddy Thompson live @ The Academy

It’s been a while since my last gig, so last night I was delighted to get the opportunity to shoot the brilliant Teddy Thompson at The Academy.

I’ve been a big fan of Teddy Thompson for a few years now but this was the first time I’d seen him perform live. All I can say is WOW. He hand the crowd in the palm of his hand. At one point between songs he said “You’re a quiet bunch aren’t you?” – A female voice from the crowd responded – “We’re mesmerized”. She couldn’t have said it better. When he sung the place would go stoney silent, especially during his acoustic set. As I listened to “Turning the gun on myself” you could hear a pin drop and I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. What a voice.

Aside from the music the guy has such good rapport with the crowd, talking to us between every song and really making us feel part of the show. Three lucky ladies actually did become part of the show when he saw them dancing in the crowd and told them – “you really should do that up here”. So up on stage they got, he gave them a mic and they became his backing vocals/comedy track for the remainder of the song. I’m sure it made their night.

As usual - thanks to MCD for the photo pass. I loved it. Here’s my selection of shots from the night – Oh, and if you scroll to the bottom of the pics you’ll find a little sound clip that I recorded on the iphone from his rendition of Abba’s Super Trouper. Lovely stuff.

The shot above is from his cover of Super Trouper. Below is a snippet of the audio.

Post update – Teddy’s Girls.
