Emma and Kevin at An Grianan

There’s nothing like a bit of pressure when your shooting a wedding. For example, recently I shot a wedding and in that wedding party was three future couples of mine. That was bad enough but what was worse was shooting the wedding of someone who is a bit of a demon photographer himself! The demon in question is Kevin and it was only on the day of the wedding I remembered this guy is camera crazy (check out the cake topper) and good with it too! I made the mistake of looking at his Flickr account during the day and that was enough to make me question my own ability. The guy is good. No pressure so…..

I met with Emma last week to hand over her albums and I got a good laugh when I told her that I had their blog post ready to upload. “Ahhh, and there’s me saying to Kev that Dave mustn’t have liked us!”. It’s good to know that my couples love getting the story of their day shown for all to see. So Emma, I did like you and hopefully this big blog post will show just that! :)

Kevin and Emma are good Donegal folk – Buncrana stock.I cut my teeth shooting weddings in Buncrana and it’s always good to return. They’re a friendly bunch and if I was make a top 10 list of who offers me tea when I arrive to shoot the preparations, Donegal folk would come first every time. (Then Cavan.. but now, now.. lets not turn this into a fight… or a real top ten!)

The craic was great when I arrived with plenty happening at Emma’s. Tea was offered (told you) as were rashers, sausages, eggs, beans, pudding, toast… lets just call it breakfast – unfortunately for me I’d already ate. Friends were dropping by and getting roped into helping with little jobs. The girls were getting the warpaint applied. Dad was doing what dad’s do best – winding up the girls, helping with zips at the back of dresses and struggling with button holes (no-one’s an expert). Mum on the other hand was walking around telling people how lovely she looked – much to her own embarrassment when she realised I was in the same room :) The children in the house were in their own little worlds. The power of Nintendo.

Things at Kevin’s were a little more, how shall I put it…. calm. Suits were already on when I arrived and as usual it was the buttonholes that provided that mornings challenge. I’m serious – there is a pile of money to be made for someone who can invent a buttonhole that is easy to put on and stays where it’s supposed to. Dragons Den here I come!

I can see that I’m starting to ramble here  and I haven’t even reached the church! When Emma arrived at Cockhill church there was the sight that I only really see at Donegal weddings – the crowd standing outside waiting with their cameras as everyone wants a peek at the bride! Not sure why they only do it there but there you go – that’s what happens.

After the ceremony we went to The Red Door in Fahan for the family shots and a few portraits (and some tay and buns!) before finally heading onto the reception at An Grianán. Lovely reception it was too.

I want to thank Emma and Kevin for a brilliant for especially to Kevin for trusting me to cover their day – it’s always a massive compliment when someone with a good eye puts their faith in you. I hope I did your day some justice and I know that I’ll be keeping an eye on your Flickr gallery – this time without the feeling of sick in my belly…
