Die Antwoord live at the Academy, Dublin

It’s be a long, long time since I shot my last gig. I had to delve into my archives to see when it actually was and it was April 2011 with Jessie J at the Academy. Well, last night I returned to the Academy only this time I had a feeling it was going to be a somewhat more…. how do I put this?… mental affair. I wasn’t wrong.
It’s hard to explain Die Antwoord to those who are unfamiliar with them because quite honestly I don’t know what you’d class them as. Their wikipedia page lists their genre as Rap-Rave, Zef. All I know is they are buck mad and I like them a lot.
The Academy was jammed packed and the crowd were totally up for this. They knew this was going to be crazy and it was just that from start to finish.
From a photography point of view I found it was pretty difficult. I was totally out of practice as far as shooting gigs went and it’s has a very specific skill set all of it’s own. They guys didn’t stop moving either so getting a crisp shot was pretty challenging. Still, my heart hasn’t pounded like that while taking photographs in a long while and it felt great! Utterly awesome show and hopefully they’ll come back because I want to go again!
