Real Wedding – Caoilfhionn and Colm

Sorry – I’ve been away for quite some time. Well, aside from a few days in Killarney and Kinsale, I haven’t really been away anywhere – We’re at full on wedding season so it’s been a matter shooting lots of weddings and then spending the rest of the time post processing and building albums. So the blogs posts had to wait I’m afraid. But, to kick things off again I’d like to bring you a few shots from the wedding of Caoilfhionn and Colm which took place in Galway last month.

Caoilfhionn and Colm got ready just a few rooms apart from each other in the Clayton Hotel, where the reception would later be held. Caoilfhionn was in the bridal suite which was pretty impressive to say the least. Floor to ceiling windows stretched along one side of the entire suite letting in loads of light – once we figured out how to get the electronic blinds open that is ;)  The room was a hive of activity but Caoilfhionn was the queen of calm – happily playing with her iphone while people busied themselves around her.

Real Wedding – Ciara and Dave

What’s this? Another full wedding post? Two in as many days?! Yes!

Poor Ciara arrived back from her honeymoon wondering why she didn’t get a sneak peak of her day. The truth is, that I forgot to ask as I left the wedding that evening and I always ask before I post so I thought I’ve leave her to enjoy her fabulous honeymoon and post something on her return. I’m going to more than make up for it now though with what will be a jumbo post!

Ciara and Dave got married on the 4th of June (nearly a month folks!) on a beautiful summers day. As I arrived at the house that morning there was plenty of activity with friends and family dropping in be part of the action – the kitchen table was packed with an array of sandwiches, nibbles and drinks and as for those nuts… once you start.

They had the place lovely with baloons and flowers dotted inside and outside the house.

Real Wedding – Aideen and Rob

No more sneak peaks. I promise. From now on it’s full wedding posts. Okay? You have my word. Well, not until the next time anyway.

So then, to kick things off we have the wedding of Aideen and Rob. Aideen and Rob are what I now refer to as – The ice-cream couple. A few of you may remember the ice-cream shots from a while back. I remember I couldn’t wait to get home from the wedding that evening because I was looking forward to seeing the pictures from that day so much!

A very tiny sneak peak – Confetti explosion

I promise – this is one final sneak peak before I post a proper real wedding blog.

I’ll keep it short and sweet – this shot was taken during the first dance at Saturdays wedding of Eibhlin and Terry. Midway through the dance the band fired a canon filled with confetti which exploded all over the happy couple. It was pretty spectacular! Aside from the confetti  canon they also had a bubble machine which may sound a bit naff but was actually pretty cool – the girls loved it. The band by the way were the Hughes Brothers and had also sang at Eibhlin’s parents weddings many years before! Now that’s tradition! Maybe one day I’ll shoot the wedding of Eibhlin and Terry’s kids!

Sneak Peak – Carrie and Thomas and a very old painting.

Sneak peaks – that’s all I seem to be blogging recently but trust me, as soon as I have more time I’ll post a real wedding. Mark my words.

Until then, here is a little taster from Carrie and Thomas’s wedding which I shot back on the 5th June in Trinity College, Dublin. It was like no wedding I have been to before. It was truly posh and I mean that in only the nicest possible way. I described it to a friend as “like a royal wedding”.

I’ll save the reasons why for a later post otherwise I’d have a mighty long essay in front of me – and if you haven’t noticed, the photographs come easier to me than the words.
Oh, one thing that I will mention is that Carrie and Thomas have a great sense of humour and thought it would be quite funny to try and recreate their favourite painting when we got to Number 10 Ormond Quay – their reception venue. The painting is The Arnolfini Portrait from 1434 in which the artist Jan van Eyck painted Giovanni and his wife in-front of a large convex mirror. In the painting the artist can be seen in the mirror. Number 10 has several of these mirrors and Carrie and Thomas thought that it’d be cool to recreate and therefore I’d be captured in the mirror too. By pure and utter chance we even found a dog – in the form of a solid brass and incredibly heavy doorstop. Win! I’ve included both my version and the original below.

So, for now – here’s a taster of what was a superb wedding!

Thanks to Carrie and Thomas for having me on what I feel was a very privileged wedding to be at. It certainly felt pretty special from where I was standing.

Real Wedding – A sneak peak at Alex and Sarah’s outdoor extravaganza!

It’s 2:50am and I’m home just over an hour from Glaslough village (outside Monaghan) where I’ve been shooting the truly amazing wedding of Alex and Sarah. When I say truly amazing – I can’t mean it more. As soon as I arrived up with Sarah and took one look at the outside of the house I knew this was going to be one magical wedding. A giant marquee was in the field opposite the home of her Uncle David. He had kindly given up his beautiful house and gardens to host this beautiful wedding.

Decorations were scattered through the garden with seating plans hung from the trees with pink and silver ribbons, love hearts hanging from gate posts, little white love birds were perched inside vintage bird cages, there were pink and white paper lanterns, bunting stretched from tree to tree, umbrellas stabbed into the ground in case of rain, a chalkboard to write and record a personal message to Alex and Sarah…. the list goes on and on.

All I know is I could not wait to get home to take a quick peak at what I shot.

Here – is just a tiny snippet to share with your how beautiful everything was. This wedding WILL be re-visited!

Oh, and a massive congrats and huge thanks to Alex and Sarah and both of their familes. You made my day oh so very easy!

“Where are the bride and groom?” – Oh… I couldn’t share that already…  Could I?

Oh okay then!

Don’t they just look fab!

Night night.
