It turns out that I have a trademark. Yes, that’s right just like Bruce Forsyth with his ’Strong man‘ pose I too have my own defining stamp. It’s called ‘The sitting down shot’. Sounds kinda lazy doesn’t it? I should tell you that it’s not me that does the sitting down but the happy couple who have just been married and have requested ‘the sitting down shot’. Now who’s lazy?
I first did the sitting down shot a couple of years ago with William and Claire on Ballyliffen beach. I remember the day well. It was cold, wet, windy and the beach was actually going to be a no-no but sheer bravery on Claire’s part led us down to the beach and we got the shot we needed – The ‘sitting down shot’ was born.
William and Claire – Sitting down…. if only you could somehow feel the cold..
About a year later the same shot was requested from Andrea (the beautiful bride on my web banner). As the sun was splitting the sky we had the luxury of trying a few different shots without the need to wrap ourselves in towels and call ahead to the hotel to prepare hot water bottles. We did a few variations of the shot. Some were very similar, some a little different.
Andrea and Paul – that’s right, they’re sitting too…
So anyway, this leads me to Gráinne and James. A lovely couple whose wedding I shot back in July in Dunkineely, Co. Donegal. After seeing ‘TSDS’ (The Sitting Down Shot – that right, it’s even been abbreviated) on my site Gráinne asked if we could give it a go as we would be stopping by the beach on the way from the church to the hotel. Well of course we could – what’s a trademark if you don’t use it? The beach was a bit wet so car mats and old jackets were gathered up to sit on and as they plonked themselves down I got to work.
Gráinne and James – Sitting down and kissing!
It was a fabulous day. Right from the outset when I was fed a fry on arrival, then saw the most incredible wedding car arrive to collect James (a Shelby Mustang Cobra 350 GT), had fun in the garden with the cutest dog in the world – little Coco, and then was fed like a hungry king in the Castle Murray Hotel.
Oh, and it was all pretty fabulous for Gráinne and James too.
